What is STE?

STE, the Synthetic Training Environment is a part of IVAS (Integrated Visual Augmentation System). Both are a mouth full… and the tech is just as complicated as the names. It was created in efforts to increase situational awareness for soldiers on and off the battlefield. My part in its development was to lead the design effort around the Synthetic Training Environment. Using mixed reality, STE puts soldiers in location based experiences where they can simulate a variety of battle drills by integrating NPCs (Non-Player Characters) into a real environment to train with or against.

Why is it Important?

STE allows any level of soldier quick entry to hard to access training scenarios. The technology has dramatically pushed the boundaries of how quickly and accurately we can make digital twins from our real environment. The core capabilities below stack up to a location based training experience that allows soldiers to quickly set up, train, and analyze their outcomes. This is critical to providing the soldiers with more information to make more informed decisions to help save lives on both sides of the line of fire.

Core Capabilities

  • Location Mapping (Most Accurate and Scalable Mapping in the World)

  • Scenario Authoring (Battle Drill Creation)

  • After Action Review (Qualitative Training Metrics)

  • Quick Set Hardware (Ruggedized and Easy Set Up for Creating Simulations at Any Location)
